Here are 5 reasons why you must be at the National Vitalization Summit 2020.

  1. Christianity in Canada has been declining for over five decades. We can’t stick our heads in the sand and pretend that Christian influence hasn’t lessoned since the 60’s. Canada, once a predominately Christian nation, is seeing less and less people who identify as Christian. This is a problem. This is our problem. We must be willing to do whatever it takes to reverse the trend of decreasing Christian influence in our nation.

  2. Churches are dying. Churches are closing. The CBC published an article in March 2019 that 9,000 churches are set to close in Canada in the coming decade. You don’t have to look hard to see that this isn’t far off from the truth. Many congregants are aging out. Many millennials are walking away from the faith. The church of Jesus Christ should be prevailing in Canada, not failing.

  3. God is doing a new thing. The concept of vitalization or revitalization of churches has become a growing trend in North America for the past five years. Groups like The Unstuck Group, Malphurs Group and Revitalize Network have been started and grown in three to five years. Church leaders are stepping up and undergoing the task of revitalizing and replanting existing churches. God is taking something that is dying and breathing new life. Coaching, consulting, and collaboration are key contributors in revitalizing churches in Canada.

  4. Denominations are positioned to turn their churches around. Denominations started as a way to keep churches together as they grew and multiplied. At some point, they have also lost their way and have found themselves spending resources on keeping the denominational structures aloft rather than resourcing and serving the churches on the front lines of ministry. The local church is the hope of the world. Districts and denominations can become platforms that ministers and churches can step on top of to reach further and higher in ministry than ever before. This is a key message in vitalization.

  5. Canadians are coming to Christ. Evangelism still works. Invitation still works. Preaching the gospel and inviting people to respond still works. Why? Because the Holy Spirit is very much active in our nation. The Holy Spirit is still drawing people. The Holy Spirit is convicting people. The Holy Spirit is talking to people.  When churches begin to actively engage Canadians in spiritual conversations using language and cultural adaptations that Canadians understand, it works. The missiological principles that we teach global workers apply to reaching the nations in our own backyard.
