For many church leaders, this has been the hardest season of their lives; their decisions have been questioned, their lives have been interrupted, their faith has been tested and, their fears have tried to overcome them. Many have been tempted to walk away. Many have been tempted to give in to their own insecurities. But in spite of all of this, they have endured. They have shown up, spoken up, and caused people to look up. They’ve reached out, they’ve reached in and they’ve seen God do the impossible.
And now, they are poised for the greatest opportunity they have ever seen.
Canadians have questions about life. Canadians are trying to make life work. Canadians are wondering if there is any value or relevancy in being a person of Faith; of Christian faith. Spiritual Canadians are asking, “Is there more to life than this?” And the world isn’t offering too many answers, only more “what ifs” and “what now’s”.
And so this is the opportunity churches have; to speak life and hope and truth into the uncertainties that lay in front of us. We can answer life’s deep questions from the scriptures. The church can provide a deep and meaningful community. The Spirit of Christ can lift up any human soul and offer hope and purpose in life.
So, let us not grow weary. Let us remind ourselves of our calling. Let us not slink back into obscurity but let us boldly talk and tell of the Love of God and the gospel of Jesus Christ through every medium that is available to us.
This, pastor, is an incredible opportunity. It’s right in front of you. Can you see it? Let us seize it.
